CHATTERBOX

Chatterbox is the most exhausting of all crew.  While there is certainly a time and place for talk, many sailors appreciate time for quieter pursuits, like reading, gazing out over the amazing aquamarine horizon, watching for the green flash, or hanging on for dear life on a 30 degree heel.  But Chatterbox never met a silence she couldn't pierce with inane commentary, or worse yet, endless questions (which aren't rhetorical, because Chatterbox actually expects you to answer).  Chatterbox, too, often has failed to crack open a cruising guide, where most of her questions are answered in full.  That golden, silent moment when the sails go up and the motor goes off is shattered by Chatterbox's yammering.
"What is tolerable, albeit sometimes annoying, ashore rises to maddening in the small confines of a charter boat.  We had to limit our Chatterbox's time below, because she would use up all the air!  Curiously, though, she only wanted to talk to us.  We had a hard time getting her off the boat, and when she did, she didn't feel comfortable talking to the people on the islands we visited."
