MR. WISH-I-WERE-SOMEWHERE-ELSE

Mr. Wish-I-Were-Somewhere-Else is a variant of a most insidious species of tourist: he compares everything he is presently experiencing to something else, instead of enjoying the experience for itself.  While on land-based trips he often compares -- generally unfavorably -- the country he is visiting to his hometown.  On a sailing charter, he compares his current vessel to one he wishes he were on (even if he has not experience of the desired vessel).  So, if he is on a monohull, he wishes he were on a catamaran.  If he is on a poky sailboat, he wishes he were on a racy motorboat.  And you, of course, wish he were too.

My husband and I like sailing monohulls.  Cats are great, but they're not our thing, so don't ask us why we are not on one.  We also like the charter company we are using, because their boats, though older, are cheaper and allow us to take a longer charter.  Tell ya what, next time YOU learn to sail and then you can choose whatever boat and charter company YOU want.

Heard on board a 42 footer: "This boat sure is small."
